What You Need to Know About Dermal Fillers

Full results can take approximately two weeks, so we recommend you plan accordingly before any special events.
Dermal fillers can cause bruising, tenderness, and minor/moderate swelling. Things you can do to minimize the chances of bruising & reduce swelling involve refraining from things that can thin your blood or 3-4 days before your treatment such as:
Medications: NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Naproxen), Aspirin (only with your provider approval)
Supplements: Fish oil and vitamins
Alcohol
You can also take a supplement called Arnica to help minimize bruising.

After your treatment, there are a few things you can do to ensure your best results and minimize potential bruising & swelling.
Your results are immediately visible but may appear fuller than expected due to swelling and/or bruising.
Expect lumpy/bumpy, bruising, swelling, itching, and/or redness
Soreness is expected, but intense pain is not
Assess the area multiple times a day for vascular occlusion for
Blanching of skin; the color of the skin turns white/lighter/bluish
The area is cool to touch
Delayed capillary refill >3 seconds
Blisters or little pimple-like sores
If any of these are noted, call the office immediately 813-696-1710.
Avoid excessive sweating and/or working out for 24 hours
Do not massage the area
Do not apply makeup for 24 hours
Avoid wearing a mask for 24 hours
Avoid pets licking your face
Avoid sleeping directly on the treated site for 72 hours
Filler to lips or around the mouth:
Avoid straws, oral activities, or heavy kissing for 7 days.
Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen for a few days if possible
Use Arnica for bruising and/or swelling
Use Tylenol and light/intermittent cold compresses as needed for pain control
Direct and extended contact of ice to the skin should be avoided
Avoid plane rides or out-of-town trips for 7 days
Avoid dental work for 4 weeks
Contact the office immediately with any concerns
You will need to return for a post-injection appointment in 2 weeks
